In the spring of 2018 legendary electronic producer Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Grizzly Bear, Can, Erasure) and composer Christopher Bono (Bardo, Ghost Against Ghost, NOUS) set an intention to consecrate the new Our Silent Canvas’ Apollo 37 barn studio in upstate NY through a personalized sonic ritual lasting the course of 6 days. Following the NOUS project ethos that explores improvisation through collaboration, the resultant album from Nous Alpha, entitled Without Falsehood, displays a diverse set of organic, inspired soundscapes forged by friendship and a commitment to doing every moment of performance and production always together in the same room. The project was guided by meditations and consultations of the I Ching and features a lovely blend of contemporary sound art pieces alongside ambient and mixed electronic soundscapes. All tracks were performed live with no digital editing or sampling, in the few places where overdubs occurred, it became a pledge between the two of them to simultaneously find an idea to perform so there was never a moment when one of them was making music alone; in a time of social isolationism, this is quite a refreshing listen.
